The Slovak parliament recently passed a new law regarding the one-day e-vignette, which will come into effect on August 1. The one-day e-vignette will be valid solely on the day of purchase, rather than for 24 hours.

This change may be particularly beneficial for those planning short trips in Slovakia or just transiting through the country.

Although the annual e-vignette, which was valid until the last day of the calendar year, will be abolished, the 365-day highway pass will remain available to drivers.

Transport Minister Jozef Ráz emphasized that the new one-day pass can provide great assistance to both domestic short-term travelers and foreign tourists during the summer vacation period.

According to Infostart, the one-day e-vignette should have been introduced by the end of March based on EU directives, but the Slovak Ministry of Transport did not have enough time to prepare the draft legislation, which led to a delay in the enactment of the law. This change places Slovakia among several EU member states that already apply the one-day e-vignette.
