The early evening thunderstorms on Tuesday caused significant disruptions on several highways and busy junctions in Budapest, particularly on the M3 and M0 motorways, as well as at junctions of the M5 e-vignette. Due to the downpours near Hatvan, cars could only move slowly, and, in some places, traffic came to a standstill. In the Gödöllő area, severe congestion developed on the side leading to Vásárosnamény due to the restoration work following an earlier accident. The thunderstorms affected not only Budapest but also several northern and central Hungarian counties, such as Heves, Nógrád, and Pest counties. In Heves County, firefighters were involved in storm damage mitigation at more than twenty locations, while in Pest County, they were called to thirty sites to remove fallen trees. In Domoszló, lightning struck a residential building, whereas in Hatvan, Boldog, and Turá, fallen trees and power poles caused problems. In Nógrád County, Balassagyarmat and Karancslapujtő were the most affected, where firefighters cleared roads and railway tracks of fallen trees. The mayor of Balassagyarmat reported that the storm caused extreme damage, such as toppled trees and downed power lines, leading to power outages. The thunderstorms also brought heavy downpours to the western part of Transdanubia, with rainfall ranging from 20-30 millimeters in several locations, and 55 millimeters falling in Alsónemesapáti, which is almost equivalent to one month's worth of precipitation. HungaroMet issued a level one yellow warning for the northern and central parts of the country, as the affected areas could receive up to 25-30 millimeters of rain in a short period.
