A favorable news has arrived for our country in this election year. Currently, in Romania, 1,280 kilometers of motorway and expressway are under construction, with planning having started a few years ago. These projects cover more kilometers than the roads built in the past half-century in total. According to Economica.net, 530 kilometers of motorway and expressway are currently being built. Construction is active on the A1 motorway, as well as along the A0 motorway surrounding Bucharest. Works are also ongoing on a section of the A7 motorway between Ploiești and Pașcani. An additional nearly 240 kilometers of expressway are still only in the planning phase, so no shovels have reached the ground there yet.
The works will soon commence. New construction sites will open, for instance, on the A13 motorway between Sibiu and Făgăraș. These projects include an additional 505 kilometers of expressway, which are currently in the public procurement process. Examples include the Arad-Oradea expressway or the Craiova-Târgu Jiu expressway. Economica.net explains that the investment amount for these projects exceeds 113 billion lei. For the first time, the number of expressways in the ongoing procurement, design, or construction phases exceeds those that have been opened to traffic in Romania over the past approximately 50 years. In total, the projects encompass 1,280 kilometers of roads, whereas since 1972, only 1,115 kilometers of motorway and expressway have been opened to traffic.
