Users of the D6 highway passing near the village of Kamenné Žehrovice in the Kladno region can once again travel without restrictions in the lane leading towards Prague, which had been closed since early August due to repair work. Repairs on the 5.5-kilometer stretch, which cost nearly a hundred million crowns, faced delays as they were initially expected to be completed by the end of September. During the renovation, the primary focus was on road reconstruction, restoration of unpaved shoulders, drainage, and replacement of guardrails. The project also included the repair of a bridge that carries a class III road over the highway near the town of Tuchlovice.
The cause of the delay lies in the drainage works. According to information from the State Road and Highway Directorate (ŘSD), it was discovered during reconstruction that the area designated for new drains did not solely consist of soil; part of it also protruded rock. This issue affected approximately a 900-meter stretch of road. While construction was carried out by Silnice Group, the lane heading towards Prague was closed, and traffic was diverted to the other side of the highway with a 1+1 lane and a speed limit of 80 km/h. Approximately 20,000 vehicles pass through this section daily, about one-quarter of which are freight transport.
