Members of the 'Moldova Vrea Autostradă' Association drew attention to the importance of building the A8 highway with the sound of drums on Saturday, as reported by Agerpres. MVA representatives organized the 'A8 Highway with Drum Roll' event in Iași's main square to emphasize the urgent need for the construction of the A8 highway.
The route, also known as the 'Highway of Unification,' connects Iași to the western part of Romania and the Republic of Moldova through the city of Ungheni. 'This event is a clear message to the authorities. The sound of the drums serves to convey the voice of the citizens who want safer roads and modern infrastructure that meets Moldova’s needs. It is one way we, as a civil organization, push the authorities to start the works as soon as possible,' said Flavius Manea, the president of the 'Moldova Vrea Autostradă' Association. Among those visiting the square on Saturday was former prefect Nicuşor Păduraru, one of the founding members of the association. He spoke critically about the delay in realizing the 'Highway of Unification,' attributing it to the weakness of local and government documentation and the strategic disinterest observed over the past three decades, holding back Moldova's development.
'Infrastructure represents development in all aspects, economic growth leads to stability and a reduction in poverty,' he added. At the same time, the association’s founding member, Adrian Covăsnianu, former State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, emphasized the significance of building such a road infrastructure that connects the eastern and western parts of the country, thereby promoting the development of Moldova’s counties. 'Even if the weather is not favorable to us, we want the news of this event to reach Bucharest, as there is a need for the A8 highway in Moldova. We note that bids for the mountain sections have still not been announced. We are waiting for the completion of the feasibility study for the Iași section. We hope to see clear signs of the highway’s construction next year. Just look at where there are highways, how quickly economies grow, communities develop, and people’s living standards improve,' said Covăsnianu.
In addition to the interactive drum rolls, they launched a signature collection campaign to support the construction of the A8 highway, and established dialogue points where citizens could propose suggestions for the development of the region’s road infrastructure.
