The realization of the Kysucká highway is getting closer to reality. The National Highway Company announced a tender for the section marked D3, which is located between Žilina, Brodno, and Kysucké Nové Mesto. This is one of the projects that highway builders prioritize, mainly due to the adverse traffic conditions in the region. The highway in Kysuce will allow both passenger cars and some trucks to avoid the current I/11 road. The new route will significantly ease the lives of future users, especially during morning and afternoon peak hours, saving travel time.

The reduction in truck traffic will positively affect the residents of Oškerda, Radoľa, Povina, and Kysucký Lieskovec most. According to available analyses, near Oškerda, the number of passenger cars may decrease by as much as 12,000, and trucks by 6,000, which currently use the I/11 road. In other municipalities, this reduction will mean about 7,000 fewer passenger cars and around 5,000 fewer trucks daily. The completed D3 section also creates better conditions for industrial development in the region. The industrial transport infrastructure can be attractive for logistics centers, industrial parks, and other sectors as it increases labor mobility. The construction of the highway network also contributes to the recreational use of the area and the development of tourism.

The third, 11.2-kilometer D3 section currently undergoing tendering directly connects to the previous ones: Kysucké Nové Mesto – Oščadnica and Oščadnica – Čadca Bukov, 2nd profile. The estimated cost of building the third section without VAT is 507.4 million euros. The tender includes 16 bridge construction projects, six retaining walls, 16 noise barriers, and an eco-duct, i.e., wildlife crossing. Additionally, the route of the I/11 road is modified from the Brodno junction to connect all the way to the Kysucká Gate. This year is a significant milestone for the Kysuck region. Thanks to the completed sections, Slovakia will have a full highway connection from Žilina to the Polish border, which will also contribute to fulfilling the international obligations of the Trans-European Transport Network.
