Urgent expansion joint repair on the M0 highway
The repair works of the expansion joint on the M0 highway at the Dulácska valley bridge will begin on Friday, as announced by Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt. According to Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt., continuous road and bridge inspections are conducted on the national road network. As a result of these inspections, it was revealed that urgent expansion joint repair is needed on the M0 highway on the side leading from the M1 motorway towards the M5, after the Törökbálint junction, at the Dulácska valley bridge. The expansion joint, or dilation gap, plays an important role in the stability of bridges, as the purpose of the expansion joint is to absorb the deformation of the bridge and cover the dilation gaps while being able to withstand traffic load. After the preparatory work and the traffic installation tasks, the repair work is expected to start on the morning of August 16.
Due to the increased traffic of guest workers expected because of the long weekend and the summer season, substantial traffic jams may form. However, postponing the works is not possible for traffic safety and continuity reasons, so the repairs must be carried out in the shortest possible time. According to external contractors' estimates, the work could be completed by the evening hours, so no traffic restrictions are expected over the weekend. The repairs will be conducted inside the bridge, under the traffic lanes, because the expansion elements can be repaired from there. As a result, commuters will not encounter visible work, but during this time, traffic will not be able to proceed on the surface.
During the restrictions, only the inner lane can be used by commuters, and they can also travel on the parallel collector-distributor road through which they can return to the highway. Commuters are advised to check the current traffic situation related to the repair work on the Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt.’s Útinform service at utinform.hu before setting off, and also use community driving applications to avoid unexpected jams and proceed towards their destinations as smoothly as possible. *The cover image is an illustration, source: Getty Images.*
