In Switzerland, efforts are made to perform road repairs and maintenance smoothly without hindering traffic. To this end, new-generation speed cameras are also being tested, which operate with integrated digital systems and adapt to situation-dependent speed limits.
The first tests were conducted at Maroggia, on a section of the A2 highway, and so far positive experiences have been reported – writes polizeiticker.ch. Instead of traditional speed limit signs, digital speed display signs have become the standard. As part of the A2 highway project, signs were installed on certain sections that allow the displayed speed to be automatically adjusted depending on traffic, from 120 to 100 or 80 kilometers/hour. Particular attention was paid to ensuring that the automatic speed adjustments between radar measurements and electronic signs are well-coordinated, thus avoiding incorrectly imposed fines for exceeding the speed limit allowed on a given road section.
It is worth noting that in Switzerland, exceeding the speed limit by even 1 km/h is considered an offense.
